Etienne Wenger: Learning for a small planet

I am now launching a substantial research project entitled "Learning for a small planet."

This project will expand the framework of communities of practice. It will look across various projects inspired by the work on communities of practice for trends and new directions. It is a long-term project to explore issues of learning capability both from the standpoint of individual identities and communities of practice forming multi-scale learning systems.

Learning for a small planet: the project

I have written out a research agenda, which describes the rationale and approach of the project.

Executive summary: a one-page summary of the project
Prospectus: a 4-page description of the project for partners and funders
Project overview: a 14-page Word document that includes the executive summary and an overall project description
Full research agenda: a 55-page Word document that includes the executive summary and the project overview mentioned above, as well as four appendices covering aspects of the research: the theory, the study of trends, the study of implications, and methodology.

Learning for a small planet: the institute

I have incorporated the project as a non-profit research institute and have applied for 501(c)(3) status (public charity status in the US). The form that this institute will take is still under design, but I expect it to be a highly networked organization.

At this point I am looking for an initial group of funding partners to launch this institute with me. When enough funding is secure I will also invite other kinds of partnership.
